Omar Sosa came to town in January 2006 and what a mind-blowing concert he gave at the Basement. Brought out by Jaslyn Hall, it was one of the best concerts I've witnessed in a long while. The synergy between the band members, Omar on Piano/sounds, Anga Diaz on Percussion and Childo Thomas on Bass was extraordinary. A truely exhilarating experience, watching , listening... learning. Very talented , very creative and progressive; just extremely high skill level all 'round...and made it look oh so effortless as well. I  felt myself being spiritually adjusted. So either they were fucking amazing or I don't get out much... at the moment, probably both! BTW Omar's website seriously rocks. You'll find it here. OMAR SOSA

Biography

As part of a regular feature on Sunday Brunch, we ran a competition called the 10.30 challenge. At 10.30 every Sunday morning on the program, we'd play some music, ask a question about it, and listeners would call in and win...great stuff...like Barista Coffee Courses at SCC or CD's or tickets to the monthly Jazz Action Society gigs. President Joy Mestroni does a great job promoting Aussie jazzers and the Andrew Dickerson Concert at the Paddington RSL was no exception. A great band , a great evening. Lots of happy winners...
