Full Biography :: Mini Biography :: Point Form Debra Dicembre is one of Australia’s premier vocal and songwriting talents. A multi-award winner, Debra is gifted with one of the finest female jazz and soul voices to be found anywhere. With a rich full tone, a playful heart and a highly skilled musical mind, Debra’s performances are not quickly forgotten. With deft precision and gut wrenching emotion, this girl delivers. Her prodigious talents also extend to the familiar bedfellows of gospel, blues and country. Born into a family of musicians, Debra took to the stage at age 5 and went on to win the Australian Jazz Singers Award. Composing and performing on piano and guitar, Debra spent 3 years living and working in New York City. Two CD releases, and a host of career achievements, including first prize in the Unisong International Songwriter’s Contest and the Australian Gospel Songwriting Award for Best Lyrics 2003, has seen Debra win the hearts and respect of peers and fans alike. An exceptional music educator and artistic motivator, Debra has passed on her passion and skills to eager students all over the world. Many of the top Jazz artists in Australia , including Dale Barlow, Mark Isaacs and Carl Orr, have invited Debra to perform live in their ensembles, and collaborate on their recorded work. Having just returned from New York City once again, Debra is expanding her range of creative expression to include photography, writing and multi-media art. Currently works in progress include a new CD and a book of poetry and photography. In January of 2006, Debra began producing and presenting 'Sunday Brunch' ; a 3 hour jazz and cool music radio show, from 9am till 12 noon, every Sunday on 2CCR 90.5FM. At present Debra is based in Sydney Australia. |
